# NannaLife vs hospital and lab patient portals

> NannaLife turns the lab reports you already have into one private, source-linked health timeline, with an AI that answers from your own results.

This is the Markdown version of https://nannalife.com/vs/patient-portals.

## The short answer

A patient portal is the authoritative record for one hospital or lab, usually with a limited window of history and no view across providers. NannaLife does not replace it. You download the report from the portal and upload it, and NannaLife normalizes it alongside every other lab's results on one timeline, with each value linked to its source.

## Where a portal is better

- It is the source of truth, published by the organization that ran the test.
- It may include imaging reports, discharge summaries, prescriptions, and clinician notes.
- It may carry the doctor's interpretation.
- It is already connected to appointments and repeat test ordering.
- Nothing to upload: new results appear on their own.

## Where portals leave gaps

- One login per organization. Three labs and a hospital means four accounts.
- Many portals display a limited period of past results, and some deactivate accounts after long inactivity.
- You get documents, not a timeline.
- No cross-lab comparison: different names and units for the same marker.
- Nothing explains the marker.
- Reading a PDF on a phone at an appointment is a poor experience.

## Side by side

| What matters | Patient portal | NannaLife |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Coverage | One organization per login | Any lab you upload reports from |
| History retained | Varies, often a limited window | Every report you upload stays |
| Adding a report | Automatic from that provider | Upload the PDF or photo |
| Cross-lab normalization | No | Names and units |
| Trend for a single marker | No | Across all reports |
| Explains what a marker means | No | Per biomarker |
| Ask questions of your own results | No | With NannaDoc |
| Family members | Usually separate logins | Separate profiles, one account |
| Clinician interpretation | Often included | Not included |

## The honest recommendation

**Stay in the portal if** you are there for the doctor's interpretation, you need imaging and discharge summaries, all your care is with one provider, or you want results to arrive without any action.

**Add NannaLife if** you have used more than one lab or hospital, an old portal account has disappeared along with its history, or you manage reports for family as well as yourself.

Keep every portal you have. Download reports while they are available, upload them once, and let the timeline cover the years the portals forget.

## Questions

**Does NannaLife connect to portals directly?**
No. There is no portal integration. You download the report and upload the PDF.

**Why not just use my lab's portal?**
A portal covers only its own organization, often with a limited window of history, and never compares values across labs.

**Can I still access the original report?**
Yes. Every value stays linked to the source document you uploaded.
