A patient portal is the authoritative record for one hospital or lab, usually with a limited window of history and no view across providers. NannaLife does not replace it. You download the report from the portal and upload it, and NannaLife normalizes it alongside every other lab's results on one timeline, with each value linked to its source.
Where a portal is genuinely better
- It is the source of truth. The result is published by the organization that ran the test, not extracted by a third party.
- It may include more than lab work - imaging reports, discharge summaries, prescriptions, and clinician notes.
- It may carry the doctor's interpretation, which no consumer tool should try to reproduce.
- It is already connected to future appointments, and often to billing and repeat test ordering.
- Nothing to upload. New results appear on their own.
Where portals leave gaps
- One login per organization. Three labs and a hospital means four accounts, four passwords, and four different interfaces.
- History windows close. Many portals display a limited period of past results, and some deactivate accounts after long inactivity, so older reports become hard to reach.
- You get documents, not a timeline. A portal shows a list of reports. It rarely plots one marker across five years.
- No cross-lab comparison. Two labs can report the same marker under different names and in different units, and neither portal knows about the other.
- Nothing explains the marker. Portals print the value and the range, not what the marker measures.
- Reading a PDF on a phone at an appointment is a genuinely bad experience, and that is often the moment you need it most.

The honest recommendation
Stay in the portal if
- You are there for the doctor's interpretation of a specific result.
- You need imaging, discharge summaries, or prescriptions in one place.
- All your care happens with a single provider and a single login.
- You want new results to arrive without any action from you.
Add NannaLife if
- You have used more than one lab or hospital over the years.
- An older portal account has gone away along with the history in it.
- You want to see one marker's direction instead of one report at a time.
- You manage reports for a parent or a child as well as yourself.
Keep every portal you have. Download reports while they are still available, upload them once, and let the timeline cover the years the portals forget.
